While diverse, most of my paintings explore: sense of place, response to figure & gesture, or abstract ideas & form. I am interested in how human perception amplifies and interprets combinations of color, shadow, light, line, and shape.
I often initiate work with a few loose, almost random marks to get my mind flowing. Each progressive addition or subtraction is a response to what is already there. It is like feeling my way into an unknown space without light.
Current preferred mediums are charcoal, chalks, oil paints, acrylic paints, pastels and oil pastels on paper, canvas, or panel.
